For this trend forecast looking five years ahead, I began with a “stinky fish”: the sexualization of women. This led to many questions, such as: What is the difference between a male and a female nipple?
The research was structured around five components: innovators, drivers, impact, consequences, and futures. As part of my exploration, I visited the Centraal Museum in Utrecht to study how women have been portrayed throughout history, how the female body was perceived, and how these perceptions have evolved over time.
From this research, I developed a concept board illustrating a future trend in which women unapologetically show the natural shapes of their bodies, including their nipples, something that is often still seen as taboo today. The color palette ranges from soft, muted tones representing body acceptance, to bold, bright colors used to make a powerful statement.
